1655 EAST CAMPUS CENTER DRIVE
The University of Utah has unveiled its new Spencer F. Eccles School of Business building. The $72 million educational facility will provide a cutting edge learning atmosphere for students for years to come.
Upon completion, the project will total 188,600 square feet on nine levels. Built in two phases, the grand opening for the first phase was in November, 2011, while Phase II is scheduled for completion in May 2013.
The facility includes 16 classrooms equipped with state-of-the-art technology, podcasting and video conferencing capabilities and the latest in wireless technologies. There will also be more than two dozen spaces located throughout the building that will be focused specifically on collaborative learning and teamwork.
The project is seeking LEED Silver Certification.
Colvin Engineering Associates provided mechanical design services that included two variable volume central air handlers connected to the campus chilled and high temperature water utilities, with domestic hot water from roof-mounted solar panels. There is also a complete active atrium smoke evacuation system.
